Mystery Ranch builds high quality products with some of the best materials available right here in the US. I have had multiple packs including the Three Day Assault pack, and the Street Fighter. I use the 3DAP whenever I need a large hiking/camping pack or range bag I can depend on. The hip monkey has been no different so far. There is not much information on this pack up to his point so I decided to do a quick overview.
The Hip Monkey is built with 500D Cordura and all YKK water sealed zippers. At the price point of $60, I can safely say that this hip pack is a steal. As many Mystery Ranch products this pack comes in black, multi-cam, coyote, and foliage, depending on what is currently in stock.
The main compartment of the pack has one zippered pocket on the back that can be used for documents or important items. The main storage area is big enough to hold my DSLR, a pair of gloves, and a few other small items. Everything is very accessible when in the main pocket. On the inside like all Mystery Ranch packs, there is a small tag that lists where your product was made and who made it. I love to see this on bags as it gives insight that is rare in today's market.
On the front outside of the pack there is a smaller zippered compartment that I use for my keys, wallet, phone, and other quick grab items.
On the side of the Hip Monkey, there are two straps that can be used to compress the bag. This is a great feature to have in case you are only carrying a few items and don't want the bag standing out off your body.
The main strap is accompanied by a large buckle that is very easily configurable to your waist size. I have a 34-inch. The back panel is built with mesh to help keep your back cool.
Overall, the Mystery Ranch Hip Monkey is a larger hip pack the can carry all your day to day needs and some more with ease. The $60 is very reasonable for a pack built by a company with the reputation that Mystery Ranch has.
